Low osmolar RCM are well tolerated by the lungs following aspiration with minimal histological reaction (1).

Routine evaluation for aspiration after thoracotomy for pulmonary resection.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of a routine protocol for evaluation of oropharyngeal aspiration after thoracotomy for pulmonary resection. METHODS Demographic, operative, and outcomes data were collected prospectively for consecutive patients undergoing thoracotomy for pulmonary resection starting in April 2005. Starting on postoperative day one, patients underw...

Purpose: To recognize affective factors in delivering X-ray contrast agents (which have high atomic number) via gallium carrier to liver or lymphatic neoplasm cells. Materials and Methods: Since uptake of gallium by liver has been reported in numerous researches, it was bonded with a contrast media (metrizoate). X-ray imaging was done to determine geometric features of liver. Results: Rad...
متن کاملThe effect of some contrast agents in the lung: an experimental study in the rat and dog.
Radiographic and histologic studies were carried out in rats and dogs after the instillation of Barosperse, Hypaque-35%, metrizamide, MP10013 (a nonionic iodine-containing agent), and isotonic saline into the lungs of these animals. In addition, blood gases were examined using these agents in dogs. Given aspiration of larger quantities of the contrast agents, the nonionic iodine-containing agen...
متن کاملClear cell tumor of the lung: a case report and literature review
Clear cell tumor of the lung is a rare and benign pulmonary tumor; only sporadic cases have been reported. Here, we report the case of a 38-year-old man with recurrent cough, blood-streaked sputum and left chest pain. A chest computed tomography scan showed a round, homogeneous pulmonary mass in the left lower lobe, which exhibited intense heterogeneous enhancement in the arterial phase and hom...

The risk of radiologic procedures is determined by different factors including contrast media, type of disease, procedure and skill of the physician. To reduce the contrast media-related risk, it is wise to use low osmolar contrast media (LOCM) in high-risk patients. When there is negligible cost difference between LOCM and other contrast media, it is wise to use LOCM for all patients. If an al...
